Lecture 21: Introduction to Steady State Metabolic Modeling
نویسنده
چکیده
According to Matthews and van Holde, metabolism is “the totality of all chemical reactions that occur in living matter”. This includes catabolic reactions, which are reactions that lead the break down of molecules into smaller components and anabolic reactions, which are responsible for the creation of more complex molecules (e.g. proteins, lipids, carbohydrates, and nucleic acids) from smaller components. These reactions are responsible for the release of energy from chemical bonds and the storage of energy respectively. Metabolic reactions are also responsible for the transduction and transmission of information (for example, via the generation of cGMP as a secondary messenger or mRNA as a substrate for protein translation).

Introduction to Steady State Metabolic Modeling
This talk is the first of a series of four which will present biology from a systems standpoint. Just to put things in perspective, this lecture will focus on metabolic systems but specifically on a modeling approach termed steady-state metabolic modeling. The next lecture will expand on the latter concept and apply it to regulatory networks of gene expression. We will then go over systems mode...

متن کاملIntroduction to Steady State Metabolic Modeling
To better understand a biological system, as how it is regulated and behavors, it may be necessary to reconstruct the system correctly. Metabolic Modeling allows for in-depth insight into comprehending the molecular mechanisms of organisms, on a systematic level. It will also help to build novel systems, as the aim of synthetic biology states. We are going to start today by looking at a particu...
